Welcome to the Student Agency In Learning Portal

Secondary schools in the Whole Education Network have come together to design their own curricula which are child-centred and focused on ensuring all learners meet their full potential in life. Their inspiration comes from the Kunskapsskolan Education (KED) programme which was set up in Sweden over a decade ago and equips every young person with the tools and strategies they need to progress and be life-long learners. The project is providing opportunities for schools to collaborate globally as well as nationally and build a learning community amongst students as well as teachers.

Kunskapsskolan

Your child’s passport to an education for the global generation

This school is one of over twenty schools in the UK and USA working on the Student Agency In Learning (SAIL) project. It is a student centred, highly personalised approach to education pioneered by Kunskapsskolan in Sweden for over 15 years and now used across the world.

In Swedish, “Kunskapsskolan” means “the knowledge school.” The name is an expression of the organisation’s passion for providing excellence in learning and knowledge for the next global generation. We support schools to personalise each student’s education according to their individual needs and abilities. All resources in the school are carefully designed and organised around the student in a complete and coherent system – the KED Program™. Together with their personal coach, the student sets personal goals for all subjects. Equally important, the student and coach find strategies to reach the goals based on the student’s ability and way of learning. As subject experts and coaches, the teachers in the KED Program™ support the students in every step to develop their knowledge and skills. The material that we work with, the infrastructure, organisation, technology and other facilities support the personalised learning process.

Kunskapsskolan schools are the leading schools in Sweden. The success of its KED Program™ can be judged not only by students’ performance being higher than the Swedish national average, but also by the growth of Kunskapsskolan schools and those schools such as this one, inspired by its KED Program™ across international boundaries. The KED Program™ operates in over 100 schools and in 6 countries as part of a truly global partnership.

Together we believe we can provide an educational passport for the global generation that builds character and skills alongside academic qualifications.

Kunskapsskolan – Creating A School For All Kind Of Dreamers

In the last two academic years, all of our network schools inspected by OFSTED have received positive praise – helping those schools to demonstrate at the very least good quality provision. It is helping schools to answer the curriculum-based questions currently being framed by OFSTED and the Department for Education in their search for a broad and balanced curriculum that enriches communities and advances society by instilling the importance of thinking rather than remembering.
Two schools were also accredited by the British Council in 2018 as International Schools in recognition of their integrated global pedagogy.

SAIL Values at Ansford.

Friday the 13th is a great day to visit Ansford Academy in Somerset. This is a truly world class school by any definition. Privilege to work with Shonogh Pilgrim in helping define what makes a SAIL school and devise modifications to Whole Education’s first class Leading and Managing Curriculum Change national professional development programme to make it more bespoke for SAIL schools. Amazing to see an entire school community living SAIL values – from judging a community event at lunchtime to staying late on a Friday to finish the school’s festival float ready for the Castle Cary Carnival today – Alice in Wonderland entry! Its got to win!!

Ansford – Global Citizens

Ansford – Global Citizens

Year 7 impressed the Chair of Governors, Parent Parliament trustee and Senior Prefects at Ansford Academy when they spoke to persuade them to support a global charity of their choice. Students had used all that they had learnt in their Global Citizens theme to research, campaign and write speeches which they delivered to their theme groups. The best were voted for and four groups went through to the judging panel. The charities of choice included Water Aid, Oxfam and the Alzheimer’s Society.

All were superb and deserving of the £50 investment (gifted by the Parent Parliament) to get their campaign ideas off the ground. After much consideration, the winners were 7Y1 – Megan Knapp, Florence Turner and Melissa Marsh who spoke brilliantly about the life changing work which Oxfam does across the world.

It was incredible to see our Year 7’s making a difference and showing their fantastic oracy skills – well done to all of the year group as everyone took part and made their views heard.

The next Year 7 theme is entitled ‘Who has the Power?’. Look out for the mission which is a medieval banquet or the ‘Big Feast!!’
