In June this year I, along with a classmate, got the request to represent Kunskapsskolan Sweden at a conference in Liverpool, England. The purpose of the trip was to discuss future partnership between schools from Britain, Netherlands, and Sweden. Of course I accepted – Who would miss such opportunity?
The school we visited is called Liverpool Life Sciences UTC. An amazing school situated in central Liverpool. At the school I got a warm reception from professional teachers and nice students. UTC has the most fantastic, well-appointed lab, which I got to use. The school uses a method of learning called “Problem Based Learning” which is quite similar to the examination we do in our third year at upper-secondary in Sweden. Basically, you choose a question, and you use your knowledge to make a in-depth study to answer it. At the school, I also got to try build aquaponics, a smart way to cultivate crops by using the nutrition from an aquarium.
In the evening the students from UTC showed me and the other visiting students around the town. Guess who had the biggest smile when we had climbed all the steps to the top of the great cathedral!
The trip to Liverpool was a fantastic experience. I made many new friends, that I hopefully will meet soon again. Since we live in a society that globalizes by leaps and bounds, I really believe in the concept of cooperation between schools in different countries. It’s an  investment not only for the future, but for today.
